Network Waitaki gave more $125,000 to groups and projects around the district at its annual sponsorship awards.
A ceremony was recently held in the Oamaru Opera House in which $126,976 was given to the 48 successful applicants.
During his speech, chief executive Dylan Andrews said along with the usual applications to fund sports and cultural events, this year Network Waitaki also received more applications for "energy efficiency initiatives" which included heat pumps and lighting.
"This reflects the growing challenge of energy affordability across our community.
"Network Waitaki also funds the power credit scheme for those experiencing hardship.
"We, the distribution company, provide financial support to provide that to you."
Network Waitaki Power Trust board chair Lichelle Guyan and Network Waitaki Board chair Michael de Buyzer were on deck to hand out the awards on the night.
Applications are open for the Network Waitaki 2026 Individual Sponsorship Programme until the end of September.
Individuals can apply for financial support for personal participation — locally or at representative level — or for skills development in a chosen field including, but not limited to music, arts, sport and energy efficiency.
