A truck which collided with a station wagon at Deborah, south of Oamaru, yesterday, came to rest on its side next to SH1.

The driver of a Subaru Forrester wagon was lucky to escape uninjured when his vehicle was hit by an articulated truck on State Highway 1 at Deborah, just south of Oamaru, yesterday.

Neither the truck driver nor the Subaru driver, both sole occupants of their vehicles, was injured, but the Subaru driver was taken to Oamaru Hospital for observation, Constable Ashley Pickworth, of Oamaru, said yesterday.

The accident happened about 12.30pm at the intersection of Thousand Acre Rd and SH1.

The southbound Talley's Hino truck hit the reportedly north-turning wagon, shunting it backwards and off the road head-on into the bank at the intersection.

The driver lost control of the truck, which veered off the road, travelled along a ditch then fell on to its side.

The highway remained open.
