Milligans expanding at business park; plant to be built

Oamaru business Milligans Food Group is to expand its operation by building an animal feed plant at the North Oamaru Business Park.

Tony Spivey, of Spivey Real Estate, the estate agent promoting the park, confirmed Milligans had bought two sections at the site.

Each section is 9600sq m in size.

An animal nutrition plant would be built on the sections, which would employ eight staff when complete.

Milligans managing director Bruce Paton could not be contacted for comment.

Milligans, based in Chelmer St, is the fourth company to buy land at the business park.

Te Pari Products, Tyre General and Johnson Gluyas Tractors operate from the 22ha site. Oamaru businesses had looked to increase their operations locally in recent times and the business park was playing a part in that, Mr Spivey said.

‘‘There's some really strong inquiries out there. It goes to show there's quite a lot of confidence and belief in the region.''

In 2012, the Waitaki District Council entered an agreement with the business park's developer, Oamaru Land Holdings, owned by Auckland businessmen Andrew and Michael Carpenter, to enable the start of the 17-lot first stage of the site.

The Milligans sale brings the number of sections sold to nine.
