Another set of traffic lights in Oamaru is expected to be switched on within the next two weeks.

Contractors working for the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) this week started installing pedestrian crossing lights at the Junction corner on State Highway 1 in south Oamaru.

They will make it safer and easier for pedestrians to cross the highway at the SH1-Awamoa Rd-Towey St intersection.

The NZTA announced in September it planned to install the pedestrian crossing lights to improve safety.

The crossing has been moved several times in recent years, but the problem has been the blind brow of the Severn St hill and the Junction Hotel which has blocked motorists' views.
