Petrol-burns victim stable

The 45-year-old woman who received severe petrol burns last month is in a stable condition in the burns unit of Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, having been moved out of intensive care.

A hospital spokeswoman said it was impossible to tell how long the woman, who has not been named, would spend in the unit, as burns were very difficult to judge.

The accident happened on August 24 at the Wedderburn Old School accommodation area, and resulted in the woman receiving burns to her legs, arms, back and torso. She was flown to Auckland from Dunedin Hospital the following night.

A recent raffle in the Wedderburn area raised about $1440 for the woman.
