Neither did the prospect of cooking it for tea last night, because she is a keen cook.
Alice was one of 200 in a capacity field for the Lower Waitaki Irrigation Company-sponsored Take a Kid Fishing competition at Eckholds Pond, at Peebles, yesterday.
They surrounded the pond and the 600 salmon released into it last week, along with the usual trout population.
And when the kids got tired, parents, grandparents and others stepped up to try their hands, too.
All 2000 places in the event, organised by Wilson's Sports and Outdoors on the pond owned by Sonya and Mark Eckhold, were filled within two days.
The pond is a haven for young anglers to learn to fish, something Mr and Mrs Eckhold enthusiastically support.
Alice had ''done a little fishing off the wharf'' at Timaru with her grandparents, but is now keen to take on freshwater angling.
Her grandfather David Gardiner, who has moved to Oamaru, is also keen to take up the sport.
Using a small lure, recommended by her father Tim and another man at the pond, Alice knew she had a fish when it hit the line and started tugging.
Like all good anglers, Alice was keeping quiet about what the lure was - mainly because she did not know.
During the competition, more than 100 fish were weighed in, the two heaviest at 3kg.
There was also a ''fisherman's rumour'' someone had landed a 5kg trout, but it never ended up on the scales.
After three hours of fishing from 10am, organisers handed out 40 spot prizes to the young competitors.
