Serious head injuries for driver thrown from car

A 20-year-old Oamaru man was flown to Dunedin Hospital with serious head injuries on Sunday morning after being thrown from, then pinned under, his car, which had left the road and rolled into a paddock.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said the car, with a single occupant, driven by a man who may have been travelling to a farm in rural Oamaru, left Weston-Ngapara Rd at about 5.45am.

The man had been pinned for about two hours before the vehicle could be shifted, Sgt Woodbridge said.

An update of the man's condition was not available as his name could not be released.

Further information would be forthcoming today, Sgt Woodbridge said.

Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene.
