It is the latest addition to Oamaru's reputation as the Steampunk capital of the world, balancing a similar display on the SH1 northern approach to Oamaru.
Steampunk enthusiast Brian de Geest, who was also responsible for the display north of Oamaru and involved in Steampunk creations and headquarters in Oamaru's historic precinct, was hoping for a bit more time before details got out about the latest at Alma.
He was reticent about detail, but told the Otago Daily Times it would be something similar to that at the north end.
He was not sure what the tank was originally used for.
The tank is on Keith and Kathleen Perry's property, and they were happy to have it there. While not Steampunk aficionados, they had an interest, along with son Ian, a good friend of Mr de Geest, and his wife Nicola.
''You can't have vintage cars - almost one for every day of the week - and not be interested,'' Mrs Perry said.
