The Citizens Shield competition took a rain check last weekend — literally.

North Otago Rugby decided to postpone the semifinals and final by one week due ground closures because of the effects of flooding earlier in the week.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the recent flooding," it said on social media.

"The safety of our players and rugby community comes first, and we look forward to returning to the field when conditions are safe for rugby union."

The semifinals will now be held tomorrow and the final will be on July 25.

Undefeated Valley will host Old Boys at Weston and Excelsior will host Athletic Marist in the other semifinal tomorrow.

The presidents grade suffered the same fate with its semifinals and final shifted to the same dates.

Top qualifier and defending champions Kurow will host Excelsior this weekend while Athletic Marist and Old Boys will face off in the other semifinal.
