The Waitaki District Council wants to keep its youth council going because it believes it has a valuable role to play in providing the views of young people.
The youth council is made up from representatives from secondary schools and youth organisations in the district and is run as a council subcommittee.
But, at a meeting last month, the youth council discussed whether it should continue.
Cr Rod Bidois said there were "very serious thoughts" from youth representatives about "winding it up", though this changed. after its value was stressed.
