Waitaki deployment

New Zealand Army soldiers patrol the eastern pavement of Thames Highway in Oamaru yesterday. Soldiers patrolled the streets in an urban training exercise in preparation for overseas deployment.

More than 1200 soldiers are taking part in an array of activities in the Oamaru, Herbert Forest, Waimate, Waitaki Valley, Danseys Pass, Hakataramea Valley and Tekapo areas until November 13. Specific areas may be temporarily subject to restricted access to ensure public safety, as blank rounds and pyrotechnics will be used in built-up areas.

Open mornings will be held at Seddon Square in Waimate and Oamaru Marist Rugby Football Club from 9am on November 12.
