Summer weather has boosted construction on the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail and the aim is to have most of the sections linked by next summer.
The 312km trail from Mt Cook to the Oamaru harbour is part of the Government's national cycle trail, funded by $2.75 million from the Government and the rest from the Waitaki and Mackenzie District Councils.
More than 30km has now been completed.
The latest newsletter on progress said 10km of new trail had been completed in the past two months, creating three "mini sections" in the Mt Cook-Lake Pukaki area.
Temporary signs were in place and signs warning of cyclists on State Highway 8.
Other construction included Pukaki Flats to Twizel.
In the Waitaki district, the trail past Elephant Rocks was nearing completion.
Signage would be installed shortly in the Waitaki district for on-road sections of the trail.
The Quailburn Rd to Omarama section was due to be constructed at the same time as Ohau to Freehold Creek and Tarnbrae to Quailburn Rd.
