Visitors to next year's Warbirds Over Wanaka inter-national airshow will be able to take home as a souvenir a helicopter, light plane or a boat.
Airshow manager Mandy Deans said in a statement the global recession was putting pressure on aircraft owners and many aircraft were being put up for sale.
A special aviation sales lot would be set up at Warbirds Over Wanaka and some machines had already been listed for sale, Mrs Deans said.
There were an estimated 30,000 second-hand aircraft for sale around the world and and the airshow provided a large target captive audience, Mrs Deans said.
She had the idea after visiting the recent Avalon Airshow in Australia, where planes were lined up and offered for sale.
The show begins on April 2 with an aircraft practice day.
The main airshow will be held on April 3 and 4.
