Building of $8.5 million retirement village to start tomorrow

Construction of an $8.5 million retirement home at Presbyterian Support Otago's Wanaka rest-home Elmslie House is to start tomorrow.

The 14-villa, eight-apartment Wanaka Retirement Village at a site on Meadowstone Drive will be a life-care facility offering support services from the neighbouring Elmslie House.

PSO chief executive Gillian Bremner said it was exciting to think that by this time next year, the new village would be ready for occupation.

An official blessing of the site to launch the start of construction will be held at the site from 1.45pm tomorrow, with a function at the Wanaka Bowling Club timed to follow, she said.

The bowling club-hosted function will include a presentation of the new village's "key design features and set out an outline of the sales process for prospective residents interested in securing themselves a future home, Mrs Bremner said.

Breen Construction successfully tendered for building the Wanaka Retirement Village.
