From noon to 3pm every day this week, children will have the opportunity to visit Santa in the ice bar - in surroundings and temperatures similar to the North Pole - and have their photograph taken with him, for a donation to Plunket.
Minus 5 operations manager Jason Whalley said the bar approached Plunket to help with the fundraiser, which would add extra excitement for children who had not been in an ice bar.
Ice sculptures specially commissioned to mark the festive season would be on display, along with regular ice sculptures and NZSki mascots Spike and Shred.
All schoolchildren had received a postcard prepaid for delivery to Santa, allowing them to write down their Christmas wishes, ensuring Father Christmas did not forget anyone.
