Chinese tourists Wang DongHua (left) and Liu Ai Shi, from Shenzhen, take in Queenstown's remarkable vistas from Hensman Rd on Sunday.

They are part of an influx in Chinese visitors to the resort in recent years.

Statistics New Zealand estimates Chinese visitors spent $207million in Queenstown last year, up 60% from $129.5million in 2014 and a far cry from the 2009 estimate of $15.6million.

Visitor arrivals from the People's Republic of China to New Zealand have more than doubled since 2011, from 141,289 in the year to November 2011 to 344,944 in the 12 months to November last year.

Chinese New Year falls on February 8, in Queenstown's busiest month.
