The Queenstown Lakes District Council has delayed plans to raise charges for some leased car parks in central Queenstown.
While the charge for the Church St car park will rise to $180 plus gst per month from December 1, a similar charge for the Ballarat St and Recreation Ground car parks will not go ahead, at least for the moment.
Transport policy and stakeholder manager Denis Mander had proposed increasing charges by up to 650% to encourage long-term parkers to make way for short-stay tourists.
However, after discussion at yesterday's council meeting at Luggate, and after submissions from Queenstown resident Joanne Conroy on the poor state of the Ballarat park, the council decided to take another look in February.
