Drink-driving charge after police pursuit

A man involved in a police chase in Queenstown earlier this month has been charged with drink-driving.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the driver has been charged with having excess blood alcohol of 223mg. The legal limit is 50mg.

He is scheduled to appear in court on January 11.

According to previous reports, a 25-year-old man was thrown from his vehicle after an early morning police chase on December 10.

As police pursued the car it went down a bank on Gorge Rd, overturned and rolled 20m.

The man was taken to Lakes District Hospital with moderate injuries, and for a blood-alcohol test.

The car was torched at the weekend - something police are now investigating, Snr Sgt Enoka said.
