The Employment Relations Authority has found in favour of a former Queenstown courier driver who was not paid wages or reimbursed for her cellphone calls.
Sharon Virginia Bryant worked for Steve Dawson between October 13, 2008 and November 7, 2008 as a courier on a florist and dry-cleaning run.
She also did some store work.
Ms Bryant told authority member Helen Doyle she was not paid her wages of $15 an hour, and left her position after she confronted Mr Dawson and he told her "he had no money and could not pay her".
Ms Bryant said she was owed wages for 62.5 hours' work, and was also owed holiday pay.
Mr Dawson did not lodge and serve a statement in reply within the 14-day timeframe after Ms Bryant's statement of the problem on January 15.
He also proved difficult to contact for scheduled telephone conferences.
In a telephone message, Mr Dawson accepted Ms Bryant was owed wages, but disputed she should be reimbursed for any telephone calls made while employed by him.
He also said he, not Fastway Couriers, had employed Ms Bryant and the proceedings should reflect that.
In her determination, Ms Doyle found Ms Bryant was owed $937.50 in gross unpaid wages, $75 gross in holiday pay, and $33.43 for phone calls.
Ms Doyle also ordered Mr Dawson to pay Ms Bryant $70 to reimburse her for the filing fee.
