Launched on Friday, the enterprise set up by Auckland-based FreemanX Supercars lets enthusiasts get behind the wheel of an exotic Lamborghini Murcielago, Ferrari F430 Spyder, Porsche 911 Turbo or Lotus Sports Racer. The two-hour tour takes drivers from Frankton along scenic State Highway 6 to Kingston, stopping along the way so the drivers can change cars.
Tours leave four times daily, with an introductory price of $199 per person driving the Porsche and Lotus, or $299 for the Lamborghini and Ferrari.
Those craving more time and more thrills can choose half or full day tours from Frankton to Cromwell or Wanaka, both of which take in Arrowtown along the way.
The longer tours start from $799 per person for the half day and $1399 for the full day experience. FreemanX Supercars have been operating a similar self-drive enterprise in Auckland for more than three and a-half years.
The company also offers track drives at Hampton Downs race track south of Auckland, where car enthusiasts can take the wheel of one of the company's seven luxury supercars.
