The Intergalactic Disco Movement and solo artist Hertzog Burger progress to the final of the 2009 Ultimate Battle of the Musos competition after the dynamic first heat at X-it Youth Centre last Friday night.

Now, all eyes and ears turn to the second heat tonight to see which two acts will join them.

The Shed Next Door, Talkback Amp, Majestic and Oswald The Bearded Squirrel perform in the final heat at the Stanley St centre from 7.30pm.

The panel of judges had a tough time deciding which acts last Friday night would progress to the final.

However, they were impressed with Intergalactic's powerful performances of their rock originals Can't See The Light and I'm Feeling It, and with Hertzog Burger's piano-based pop original Where Will She Go and faithful rendition of The Fray's How To Save A Life.

Judges scored each band or artist out of 10 in the categories of lead vocals, instrumental solo, stage presence, tight performance and original material or unique interpretation.

The Red and White played its own brooding rock composition Viva Revolution and Slither by Velvet Revolver.

Your Grandma played its original swing-jazz numbers Johnny's A Babe and Small Town Girl.

The "Ultimate Muso" will be chosen on September 25 and win a support slot with an established band at Revolver.

Young people will also compete for the best original song award of professional recording studio time.

The 2009 Ultimate Battle of the Musos, second heat, Friday, September 18. Doors open 7.15pm. Free entry and all welcome.
