Friends of Wanaka-based British rock climber Matthew Allison (26) will celebrate his life in a series of fluorescent-themed events today, tomorrow and on Saturday.

Mr Allison died in an abseiling accident at Chinamans Bluff, near Glenorchy, last Friday and his body is being flown home today to his family in the United Kingdom for a funeral there.

Flatmate and former work colleague Ivy Willmott yesterday said friends would hold a dance party this evening at Red Rock, to celebrate Mr Allison's passion for music and fluorescent colours.

Friends have also invited "everyone whose life he touched" to a pot-luck meal and toast to Mr Allison at the Wanaka Scout Den, at Eely Point, at 5pm tomorrow.

On Saturday, a group intends to tramp to a site near where Mr Allison had his accident.

Miss Willmott said Mr Allison's parents would not be attending the Wanaka memorials, but his mother hoped she would be able to visit Wanaka at some point during the New Year to meet her son's friends from the region.
