Arrowtown residents will have to wait to find out if plans for a petrol station in the town will be approved, after a planned resource consent hearing was deferred by the applicant.
Auckland-based company Makaraka Estate Ltd announced plans in March to reinstate petrol pumps in Arrowtown as part of a $2.6 million development on the corner of Wiltshire and Berkshire Sts.
The land-use consent application sought to establish a fuel-service station, a service station shop, an office and a "commercial activity" on the site of the former petrol station, which contains Shamrock Motors' auto repair workshop. Under the proposed development, that business would continue to operate.
Makaraka Estate Ltd bought the site in 2007, at the time Mobil removed the existing tanks.
If approved, the petrol station would be supplied by Gasoline Alley Services (GAS).
A resource consent hearing had been set down for next week, but late last week the company requested it be postponed.
A spokeswoman said the company was working through some of the concerns raised by the council, and might also speak to neighbours before the hearing.
There was a possibility the hearing could be rescheduled towards the end of August.
