A petition opposing an affordable housing development in Arrowtown will be presented to the Queenstown Lakes District Council during Thursday's public consultation with the community.
The previous three drop-in sessions have been held at Athenaeum Hall in Arrowtown, but the final one, on Thursday, is to be held in the Queenstown council chambers between 5pm and 6pm.
The Arrowtown Rugby Club clubrooms sit on land which is proposed to be given to the Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust and the rooms could be demolished to make way for the 10-house development.
The petition is against the housing going on the Suffolk St land, rather than affordable housing per se, although the petition says the proposed two-level high-density homes are ''totally out of character in that area''.
Although the council has included construction of a new community building to house the rugby club and other groups such as Scouts in the draft Reserve Management Plan for Arrowtown and Lake Hayes, rugby club president Simon Spark said it was ''just a concept at the moment''.
''It's taken us four years to get to the point where yes, they [the council] have included it in the management plan, which is essentially their seal of approval that it can go on the reserve but it has to go through a submission process, probably a resource consent hearing, and we have to get the money to build it ...,'' Mr Spark said.
He said there was ''no guarantee it'll ever get built''.
The council's community services manager, Paul Wilson, said the timing of the new club building ''is a matter for the club''.
''The council is continuing to work with the club to facilitate an outcome,'' Mr Wilson said.
Mr Spark said 100 signatures were being sought to deliver to the council on Thursday ''and then I think there's another action group ... plus what's already gone online''.
Only the hard copies will be delivered to the council.
