The results of the inaugural Wakatipu Youth Trust beginners' photography course in the Youth Booth are to be displayed in the foyer of the Queenstown Lakes District Council building.

The exhibition Standing at the Crossroads was the culmination of a dozen teenagers getting creative and inspired by landscape, portrait and commercial photography over eight weeks.

They were guided by professional photographers Dan Childs, Emily Adamson, Jim Pollard, Jason Law and Christine McKenzie in an initiative facilitated by the Youth Booth.

Announced to the young shutterbugs and invited guests at the exhibition launch last week, the best photograph in the show, the tutors decided, was When Two Hearts Collide, One Decides, by Monique Hannagan, which will be printed on to canvas.

Maddy Coles-Cox was deemed the best overall student and won the opportunity of supporting Mr Childs as an assistant on one of his shoots.

The contest was so close, the judges decided Fiona Seal should also win the same opportunity, with Ms Adamson.

Youth worker Fi Sawers said it would be "really lovely to see the course run again next year".
