Misusing a telephone has earned a 28-year-old Wanaka man an appearance before the judiciary after he was arrested yesterday and charged with making inappropriate phone calls.
Constable Allan Lee said a complaint was laid against the man after he allegedly made a number of phone calls harassing individuals.
Misusing a telephone is an offence under section 112 of the Telecommunications Act 2001 and carries a maximum penalty of a $2000 fine, or three months in prison.
Constable Lee said the charge could be invoked if an alleged offender behaved in a threatening or disturbing manner on the telephone, or used abusive and profane language.
The arrested man will appear in the Queenstown District Court to face the charge next week.
