The first trial market for a newly pedestrianised upper Beach St began yesterday afternoon in Queenstown.

Local retail shop stalls, a masseuse and live entertainment spilled on to the street while people meandered through the market. John Raucci, of the United States, was among those browsing Jenni Franklin's Yaks n Yeti's stall.

Downtown QT centre manager Steve Wilde said the idea was to attract people into the space. Although it was a ‘‘relaxed'' start, Mr Wilde was confident it was going to be a fabulous month.

The trial will run every Friday from 4pm to 8pm for the next month.
