The tramper trapped by floodwaters near the Fantail Falls, near the Haast Pass, yesterday has been found.
Wanaka sub-area commander Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said the man was found ''safe and well'' about 9am this morning and was on his way back to Wanaka with search and rescue personnel.
Police yesterday said the man had walked down from Brewster Hut and discovered the Haast River in flood, following significant rain in the area.
About 9am, the man had told tourists at the Fantail Falls car park on the opposite side of the river from him he would not risk attempting to cross the river and would instead walk the roughly 8km downstream to the Gates of Haast bridge.
The tourists later informed the Department of Conservation of the situation. Doc contacted Wanaka police, who then launched a search operation.
