Musicians casting spells

Helen Webby and Davy Stuart are on the road with their show String Wizardry, supported by Arts On Tour NZ, and perform in the Bannockburn Community Church tonight. Christchurch Symphony Orchestra principal harpist Webby and guitar and bouzouki player Stuart play Celtic folk songs at their nearest venue to the Wakatipu at 7.30pm. She plucks a 34-string harp made by her brother, Kim Webby, of Whangarei, while he strums a steel-strung six-string guitar and an eight-string guitar-bouzouki he made himself. Adult tickets cost $25, "Super Gold" $20, student or child $5 from the Cromwell i-Site and at the door.

8.30pm: The Queenstown Film Society presents The Artists Cinema (2011), six short films commissioned to bring visual artists' work into cinemas in subversive and playful ways, then Blerta Revisited (2001), director Geoff Murphy's documentary on late actor Bruno Lawrence and his band of musicians, film-makers, lovers and hangers-on, who between 1971 and 1976 toured New Zealand in a flower-power bus. New members can join on the night in Dorothy Brown's Cinema, Arrowtown.

Wednesday
9pm: Taxi Trio, Jamie Reylton, Greg Alpine and Matt Wilson, play modern jazz in Barmuda. Free.
