NZSki management has yet to decide whether to seal more of The Remarkables ski area access road this summer.

Chief executive Paul Anderson said the company would ''love'' to extend the seal beyond the bottom 4km of the 13km road completed last summer.

However, with the construction of a $20 million base building under way, there were ''literally hundreds'' of truckloads of wet concrete and concrete panels going up the road during the next few months.

The ability to extend the seal before next season would depend on when that truck traffic ceased.

Mr Anderson was speaking to the Otago Daily Times following the company's post-season update to about 90 members of the Queenstown Chamber of Commerce last week.

Base building project managers Arrow International were making good progress, with the basement foundations poured and concrete wall panels going up.

After experiencing car parking issues at the ski area this year, management was considering options for increasing parking capacity, he said.

Despite an increase from 550 to 625 spaces last summer, the car park had been filled ''half a dozen'' times during the season because of heavy patronage.

Ski area management was subjected to complaints after closing the road and charging patrons for shuttle access.

Although The Remarkables would not match Coronet Peak's capacity of 1000 cars, management wanted to add another 200 parks over time, he said.
