Organisers of Winter Games looking for 300 volunteers

Anyone wanting to volunteer for the inaugural Winter Games NZ, to be held across the Lakes District, Central Otago and Dunedin in August, is invited to an information night in Queenstown next month.

WGNZ chief executive Arthur Klap said more than 300 volunteers would be required to help run the biggest winter sports event outside of the Winter Olympics.

At the information night, Mr Klap would provide an insight into the event and highlight ways people could help.

"Volunteers are absolutely essential to the success of the Winter Games and hugely valued members of the team," he said.

"Not all the jobs are snow-related. We'll need people to man information desks, transport teams, help behind the scenes as well as be on the mountains. It's a great opportunity to be involved in a world-class event, learn some new skills and enjoy the experience of a lifetime."

Volunteers would receive WGNZ volunteer clothing, a lift ticket on the days worked and one other to enjoy in their own time, food and drinks on days worked and an invitation to the after party.

The Queenstown information night will be held on April 8 at the Novotel Queenstown Lakeside from 6pm.

The inaugural WGNZ will be held at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Snow Farm, Naseby and Dunedin between August 22 and August 30, featuring alpine skiing, free skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, curling, ice skating and adaptive snow sports.
