Once again freestyle snowboarders and skiers will share an event with motocrossers, in a rugby field loaded with truckloads of snow hauled down from Queenstown's skifields.

Last year the Parklife Invitational, which has been going for 11 years, was moved to the Queenstown Recreation Ground to accommodate a larger stair structure, FMX ramps and more spectators. It had been held at Earnslaw Park.

This year the event is scheduled for Saturday, August 17 with a bad-weather back-up date of August 18.

Remarkables ski area terrain park crew will set up and groom the two-rail feature.

Top international motocross riders will perform demonstrations over the rail set up before the snowboarders and freestyle skiers are let loose. The riders will return between heats.

Remarkables ski area manager Ross Lawrence said there was a lot of energy on the night and crowds helped spur competitors to do their best tricks.

''Over the years we've seen some young stars in the making competing in the PLI, including the Wells brothers, who now shine on the international stage.

''This night is one of the highlights of the season - our park athletes have been practising hard up the mountain and are excited to be bringing it to town, so be prepared to be amazed.''

A qualifying round is held before the best competitors step it up a notch in a bid to take home cash prizes and sponsored gear.

The event, which coincides with the Winter Games, will run from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. Tickets will sell for $5.
