The third race in Wanaka's Riverrun Trail Series was held along the banks of the Clutha River in perfect autumn conditions on Saturday.

The 13km run started and finished at the Hikuwai Reserve in Albert Town, taking the 60 runners on Gunn Rd and the Outlet Track.

Simon Green, of Queenstown, won the race in 47min 36sec. He was followed by Dave De Vylder, of Wanaka, who finished in 51min 10sec, and Mike Coombe, also of Wanaka, in 51:46.

Dunedin woman Whitney Dagg was first woman home in 55:38. Emma Seward, of Wanaka, was the second in 1:00:10, closely followed by Fiona Reid, also of Wanaka, in 1:00:18.

Special mention went to George Knowles (13), of Auckland, who came fifth overall with a time of 51:57.

The series, now in its second year, began in October and will finish with a fourth race on the Damper Bay-Waterfall Creek Track on May 19.

The first two races were held on the Hawea River Track, from Albert Town to Lake Hawea, and the Clutha River Track, from Albert Town to Luggate.

The overall winner of the series will receive the John Pawson Trophy. The late Mr Pawson was a dedicated advocate for the environment and the development of the trails.
