St John Queenstown is ready to play Cupid and make St Valentine's Day extra memorable for loved ones around the Wakatipu, with an ambulance of volunteers set to deliver bouquets to order.

Ambulance officers, more used to re-starting hearts, will instead set hearts aflutter when they and staff from sponsors ASB take flowers to the doorsteps of homes and workplaces on Friday.

Residents are invited to order flowers from In the Pink, on Camp St, and pay $10 for the bouquet to be delivered by ambulance.

The usual delivery fee will be put towards covering operating costs for St John Queenstown, ''so the funds go straight back into the community'', area executive officer Jessica Patch said.

The organisation is partly government funded. The full cost of a single ambulance call-out is $769.

St John will maintain its front-line service to respond to emergencies at all times during the St Valentine's Day deliveries, Miss Patch said.

In the Pink owner Victoria Lund said St John approached her to participate in the romantic tradition for the first time this year and it was a privilege to help the charity.
