For the third consecutive year Arrowtown's Bachelor and Bachelorette's Ball is helping people meet others in a transient community.
The ball will be held on Saturday. Pictured are organisers Allie Blair (left) and Bridget Paape.
Ms Blair said the two previous balls, which were sparked by an idea of Ms Paape's, at0tracted between 120-140 people.
''It's quite transient here. People who arrive here and are single generally find it hard to meet people.
''It's also about making friendships,'' she said, adding she knew of two women who wanted to go to last year's ball but were reluctant to go without a friend.
Love is also a possibility.
''One couple who met the first year are still together.''
She said the man bought a ticket, then tried to sell it but was unable to, and ended up going to the ball and meeting someone.
The ball will be held at Arrowtown's Athenaeum Hall on Saturday. Tickets are $70.
