It was third time lucky for Wanaka wedding and event co-ordinator Alice Ferguson (26), who was yesterday crowned the 2010 Perfect Woman, after two days of competition in and around Wanaka.

Ms Ferguson was third in 2008 and second last year and did not have much time to prepare for the challenges this year.

"I've been flat out leading up to this. I didn't have much of a chance. I just fitted it in when I could," Ms Ferguson said.

The best thing about this year's competition was climbing 15m up a 50m pole installed in the car park, she said.

"I was so scared of it, but it was the biggest adrenalin rush.

"It took me about 1min," she said.

The worst part was playing pool, as she sank only one ball, and her other weaknesses were fencing and hammering a nail, she said.

The eighth annual Perfect Woman competition and Canlive Cancer charity fundraiser was a roaring success and organiser Sarah Perriam was impressed by crowd support.

Ms Perriam attributed the good attendance to a decision by the Wanakafest trust to move its annual festival to the same weekend as the Perfect Woman competition, with the combination of activities creating a vibrant atmosphere in town.

The first female mayor of Queenstown Lakes, Vanessa van Uden, was a judge and was impressed by the event and the talent contained in small communities.

"They are amazing, these women, aren't they? "I am so impressed with them - just the spirit with which they take every challenge on.

"And the organisers - it was such a big commitment to make everything run so smoothly.

"I'm very, very impressed," Ms Van Uden said.

Wanaka women Michelle Osborne and Latoya Grant were second and third respectively.

The competition attracted 27 competitors from throughout New Zealand.
