Three seriously hurt in Queenstown crash

Three people have been seriously hurt in a crash on State Highway 6 near Gibbston this afternoon.

A man in his 60s was trapped in a car for more than an hour before emergency services cut through the roof to rescue him.

He has now been flown to Dunedin Hospital.

Two people with serious injuries have been taken to Lakes District Hospital and will likely be transferred to Dunedin.

Another three people with moderate injuires have been transported to Lakes District Hospital. 

The crash happened near the Winehouse and Kitchen restaurant, on the Cromwell side of the Kawarau Bridge.

State Highway 6 was blocked but has now reopened.
