A Wanaka bar and restaurant has had its liquor licence renewed after police initially opposed an application because of questions about the suitability of the business's company director.
Monteiths Trout Bar, on lakefront Ardmore St, had its liquor licence renewed last month, after the holding company's sole director-shareholder, Stephen John Laing, resigned from his position.
Wanaka police had opposed the licence renewal application from Liquid Wanaka Ltd on the grounds that its director, Mr Laing, was facing an "active" charge in relation to a liquor-related traffic offence.
There were no public objections but police contended the "active" liquor-related traffic charge called into question the suitability of the applicant and the matter was referred to the Liquor Licensing Authority.
Mr Laing subsequently resigned his directorship, police withdrew their opposition, and the licensing authority renewed the licence on August 12, until December 2011.
The "Trout" is authorised for the on-licence sale of liquor between 7am and 1am, daily.
