Young solo singer-guitarist Sahara McDonald and singer-guitarist duo Lucy and Izzy will compete to become the 2012 Ultimate Muso against youth bands the Alpine Effect, the Collective Me and the Fletcherz on Friday.
Solo singer-guitarist Ruby Bain, who played during the first heat a week earlier, because of other commitments, took third place in the second heat of the Ultimate Battle of the Musos, dedicated to acoustic performers, in the Youth Booth.
Queenstown entertainer Margaret O'Hanlan told the audience on behalf of all the judges how impressed they were with the original songs performed.
She offered tips on singing, arrangement, stage presence and microphone technique.
The panel will have tough time during the grand final on Friday to decide the Ultimate Muso act, which will receive the chance to record its song professionally in Studio 183, Frankton.
Other prizes available include a warm-up slot on the New Year's Eve main stage and vouchers for It Might Get Loud music store.
Entry to the final on September 28 is ticketed.
Tickets cost $5 and can be bought in the Youth Booth, Stanley St. Doors open at 7pm and the final begins at 7.30pm.
