An annual festival with the purpose of raising awareness and appreciation of local food and wines, plans to move its venue from Gibbston to Queenstown.
The Gibbston Wine and Food Festival has applied to the Queenstown Lakes District Council to hold the festival in the Queenstown Gardens on March 15.
The event is proposed to run from 10am until 5.30pm on March 15. The application states gates will open at 10am and the last drinks will be served at 5pm.
Live entertainment is scheduled to start at 11am and will include sets played by the Queenstown Jazz Band and other local acoustic artists.
More than 2000 people are expected to be at the event at any one time.
The festival has previously been held at Gibbston, hosted by different wineries. Last year it was hosted by Mt Rosa and Brennan Wines.
About 10 wineries and 10 food stalls will participate in the festival.
''Due to the festival site being located near the town centre, it is anticipated that many attendees will walk to the site, catch public transport or drive their own cars and park in the public car parks that are available on the street and in the Queenstown Gardens,'' the application said.
