A year of achievement

The Otago Daily Times team is proud of what it has achieved with the Queenstown Times during its first year.

Our hard-working Queenstown-based reporters and columnists have produced news articles, features, opinions and photographic essays that have struck a chord.

Circulation is up, positive feedback continues to flow in, and the Queenstown Times title has in its first 12 months of publication already established an enviable reputation.

For those of us at the ODT, the Queenstown Times was (and is) all about producing a Queenstown newspaper dedicated to bringing readers in the Wakatipu basin a diet of "local" news, features, business, comment and background of all the big (and small) stories and issues.

The Otago Daily Times is New Zealand's first daily newspaper. It was first published in 1861, is the last independently-owned daily newspaper in New Zealand, and has long been proud of its regional coverage.

We label the second section of every edition "The Regions" and have always provided comprehensive coverage of Southern events and news alongside a mix of national and international news and features.

However, we recognised there was a gap in the fast-growing Queenstown region for more detailed news from the Wakatipu and, together with Fergus Spary and Scott Stevens, of Global Publications, formed the Queenstown Times to allow us to produce a tabloid newspaper free with the ODT.

We believe it is a winning formula, and look forward to many more birthdays.
