A unique collaboration, curated by one of Queenstown’s cultural doyennes, will provide a treat for eyes and ears tonight.

Margaret O’Hanlon is behind ‘Canvas to Composition’, a showcase of local musical artists, each of whom has been tasked with composing original pieces, or adapting existing works, to complement specific visual artworks in the exhibition at Queenstown’s Te Atamira arts and cultural hub.

Drummer and founder of Queenstown Funk Orchestra Campbell Reid, pianist Louis Koopman and bassist Thom Bentley are paired with artist John Reynolds’ improvised mural, and Koopman’s also been given Gordon Walters’ canvas.

Henry Boyle, a trumpeter and digital composer with band Trekker Hotel, is matched with Nyapanyapa Yunupingu’s video installation; Erica Hastie (violin/fiddle) is paired with Ani O’Neill’s crochet installation; Chilean songstress Paulina Antoine Bustos with Julian Hooper’s canvas, and singer Teegs Stallard and pianist Mark Wilson are paired with Veronica Herber’s canvas.

During the event the musos will share insights into their creative process.

Audience members are invited to visit the gallery and explore the exhibition before the event, doors to which open at 6.30pm before the event starts 7pm.

Tickets cost $35, plus fees, via teatamira.nz
