
The resort won Mastercard's "Tap for your town'' competition with the highest number of contactless payment transactions per capita between June and August.
The win means the Wakatipu will host McCaw and go in to battle on a local sports field.
Mastercard New Zealand and Pacific Islands country manager Peter Chisnall said the company was working with Touch New Zealand and the Queenstown community to firm up arrangements for game day.
"This will be the ultimate game of touch,'' Mr Chinsall said.
"From what I have heard so far, Queenstown will be going for a win.
"I am excited to hear about Queenstown's game plan and how they will train to try and take down Richie and his team.''
The game would be broadcast live across New Zealand.
Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim Boult said he was excited and delighted.
"We've been fortunate in hosting a wide range of sporting events, and we're excited to learn that Richie McCaw will be visitng soon to challenge one of our local Queenstown teams in a game of touch.
"He's a familiar face in the district and we're always delighted to see him participating in local events.''
Twizel came second overall in the competition, with Wellington in third place and Kaikoura fourth.
