Soft-serve dessert station Drop’d, opening tomorrow, is the latest offering at the cavernous food hall in Central St, joining Steak & Oyster Co, pizza station Ciao Brutto and the bar.
Owner and Sydney-based restaurateur, Sean Connolly says he "fell in love" with soft-serve in New York a decade ago, and has subsequently put Drop’d-branded dessert bars in his Australian eateries.
"But I’ve never actually made it a venue or its own being, so we’ve brought it to life here in Queenstown."
The station has eight flavours, including tiramisu, matcha and carrot cake, and "Kiwi-infused" flavours like mānuka honey and Fix & Fogg peanut butter.
They’re selling for $5 per 100g, with customers serving themselves and choosing their own home-made sauce or topping.
Connolly says the new station looks "bloody fantastic".
"We’re very, very happy about it — it’s been a three or four-month wait to get it done, so it’s really exciting for us."
Pavilion’s patronage has been good since it opened in May, with a "fantastic team" running it, he says.
"We’re never going to stop changing and morphing — we’re doing pop-ups as well this summer."
