Queenstown writer Bethany Rogers will be among a quartet of poets leading a ‘writing walk’ in Arrowtown on Saturday.

Rogers will be joined by Wānaka’'s Laura Williamson, and former Wānaka residents Liz Breslin and Annabel Wilson, in presenting the ‘Field Notes’ event, starting at the Wilson & Dorset store.

They’ll start by reading from their recent works, then lead participants on a walk around the town.

Stops will be made at several locations, with each designed to inspire participants’ creative flow in a different way, Williamson says.

Those tagging along can either just enjoy the four writers’ readings, or take part in both the readings and the writing walk.

"Everyone will get the chance to start a new piece of writing, or to work on something they’ve already started, through a series of site-specific prompts."

This "wayfinding approach" helps make walking a writer’s tool, bringing together their body and mind, she says.

"We hope you’ll come away with some fresh ideas and connections."

Field Notes is part of this month’s Creative Spaces Project, a collaboration between Queenstown’s council and the Three Lakes Cultural Trust.

  • ‘Field Notes’ poetry readings and writing walk (one hour), starts at 10am at Wilson & Dorset, 53 Buckingham St. Tickets (starting from $10) from Humanitix
