Lancashire lass Rebecca Curran (24) makes her New Zealand stage debut in the Remarkable Theatre production of the comedic play by Joanna Murray-Smith, which opens at the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall on Thursday.
Curran said her Devil Burger managers had been "very helpful and flexible and really supportive to work around the rehearsal schedule".
After enjoying last winter in Queenstown and then travelling overseas, she missed the resort and came back in January for another year, she said.
Curran is no stranger to the stage, having started acting at an early age and having performed throughout school and university.
She graduated with degree in drama from the University of Huddersfield in 2010.
"We did a lot of scriptwriting, radio plays, directing and set design and costume design and I taught first-years and volunteered in a youth theatre," she said.
"I've played cabaret, but I enjoy straight theatre." Her credits include Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat and Heart's Desire.
After successfully auditioning for the role of Molly, whose only prop is a gun, Curran had to quickly adapt to a different company after three years with the same actors at university, followed by a two-year break from acting.
Everyone at Remarkable Theatre had made her feel welcome, she said.
Acting in her first play since leaving university "is a bit daunting, but it's good fun. It's my favourite thing to do and I'm glad I can do it here, as well," she said.
"I really hope I do the play justice and people laugh and enjoy it. That's what we all want at the end of the day."
