MetService has issued a road snowfall warning for both the Crown Range Rd and Lindis Pass.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council said the snow was forecast for this evening as well as tomorrow morning and evening.
Queenstown Lakes District Council spokesman Jimmy Sygrove confirmed "snow showers" are coming through on the top of the Crown Range.
Roading contractors are currently monitoring the road, but we urge all motorists to carry chains and drive to the conditions, he said.
Queenstown experienced a cold spring day today with MetService reporting the town reached a high of 9degC. The temperature was expected to drop overnight to 1degC.
