The Cardrona Alpine Resort turned on the snow for 11-year-old Auckland stroke victim Zoe Elvin yesterday.
Zoe, who suffered a stroke at age 5, affecting the right side of her body, was able to stand on skis on the learners' slope but also tried out a sit ski.
Her two-day visit to the skifield was funded by the newly-formed Young Stroke Thrivers Foundation set up by Maria Fredatovich (left), of Wanaka, who also suffered a stroke at a young age.
Ms Fredatovich said one of the purposes of the foundation was to provide an opportunity for young stroke-affected people to take part in sport and recreation.
