Queenstown's Remarkable Theatre is staging a murder mystery in the Gardens in February and is calling for anyone interested to audition for a role this Sunday.

In the past, the Queenstown Gardens shows have been compilations of linked scenes, but this time the theatre group is putting on a complete story, Whodunnit? A Study of Murder.

Written by Remarkable Theatre stalwart David Cantwell, it features characters created by Agatha Christie — detective Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple — and others imagined by the writer.

The plot unfolds through three scenes — a present-day 65th birthday party picnic, a 1981 street party celebrating the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer, and a New Year’s Eve millennium party.

Characters range from 18-year-olds — two teenage girls — to a 65-year-old male.

Cantwell says they’re all fun to play, and he’s appealing to both previous Remarkable Theatre actors and anyone else who’d like to give it a go.

Sunday’s auditions are at Remarkable Theatre’s Isle St rooms, from 10.30am.

For a synopsis and character list, email melanie@remarkabletheatre.co.nz or davidcantwell@xtra.co.nz

Cantwell is also looking for a small dog — "it needs to be friendly, good with strangers and easily carried".
