The NZ Mixed Pairs Goodman Cup zone qualifier was played on Sunday.
Sixteen teams participated and after four section games there were only four teams that qualified, which was the result of closely fought matches where teams were upsetting each other.
This meant post section play was straight into semifinals.
Debra Ruffell and Darryl Fowler won their semi against David and Mary Mealings 10-3.
Carol Dawson and Dave Shand also had a comfortable 15-4 win in their semifinal over Alan Jenks and Janet Briggs.
In the final, Dave Shand played well-placed lead bowls which enabled Dawson to capitalise and they took an early lead going ahead 5-1 after three ends. However, Ruffell and Fowler remained competitive and played some good shots, but team Dawson kept the pressure on and took the win 13-5.
This is the second consecutive year they have won this event and will now contest the Eastern Zone finals which are being held in Timaru in July.
